Yankee Fisherman, Thursday, July 21, 2016
On Saturday, 34 young anglers, accompanied by 20 volunteers, got onto 17 boats and spent the day fishing Lake Lilinonah in the latest Connecticut BASS Nation High School Tournament. We’re there to see the young anglers weigh in their catches as the next generation gets some help from volunteer mentors.
Then it’s back to the coastline with the second part of Matt LeJeune’s introduction to surfcasting. After covering the basics in what to wear so we can keep warm and dry, we’ll work on getting the gear out to where the big fish linger without weighing ourselves down too much. In future segments Matt will cover tackle and tactics, all before the action heats up for the fall blitz.
We’ll have results from Big Doug’s Memorial Saltwater Shootout, featured on a recent Yankee Fisherman, and start getting you ready for the the WICC Port Jeff Ferry Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth. Plus some guys I know reeled in a lot of doormats from New Jersey.
Yankee Fisherman, presented by The Dock Shop, airs Thursdays at 1 p.m. on the HAN Network. Previous episodes can be watched on demand or listened to as a podcast.
Yankee Fisherman is hosted by John Kovach, editorial director, host and announcer for the HAN Network. A native of New Jersey, Kovach has fished since his father first took him out as a child. Kovach fishes fresh and salt water, ties flies, dabbles in lure making and promotes conservation, including a leadership role in the Connecticut Council of Trout Unlimited.
