Watch 7-on-7 football live on HAN Friday and Saturday

Grip It and Rip It celebrates its ninth year at New Canaan’s Dunning Field this weekend, as 32 teams battle for the tournament crown. Games will begin at 2 p.m., Friday, and will run through the final on Saturday afternoon.

HAN Network will have live coverage of the semifinals and championship game on Saturday, July 9, starting at 12:30 p.m. On Friday, we’ll be in New Canaan with live interviews of players and coaches during the round-robin format of the tournament. “It’s something we really look forward to every year,” New Canaan head coach Lou Marinelli said. “It’s really grown. We have teams that come from all over — they come down from Canada and five or six different states. That’s not to mention all the teams from Connecticut.

Marinelli gave much of the credit for the event’s success to his son, John, who is now the head coach of the Greenwich Cardinals, and Chris Silvestri, the Rams’ defensive coordinator.

The tournament will feature four divisions with eight teams each, as noted by the field those teams will play on on Friday:

“When you see 30-something teams and all those kids playing, it’s a wonderful thing,” Marinelli said. “It’s great to see all these kids playing and hustling out there. We’ve made a lot of really good relationship with other coaches in the tournament.”
