Housatonic Community College Foundation names Terry O’Conner 2016 Distinguished Citizen

A packed audience filled the HCC Events Center this May 11 and applauded Terry O’Conner, named the 2016 Housatonic Foundation Distinguished Citizen for his service to the community.

O’Conner is the executive director of the Bridgeport Cardinal Shehan Center and of the McGivney Center. Both Centers are nonprofit organizations that provide educational and social programs for citizens and children in lower Fairfield County.

Housatonic Community College Foundation scholarship recipient Dishon Francis delivered remarks and acknowledged the Foundation scholarship which allowed him to attend HCC. He said he would not otherwise have been able to attend college. Francis is transferring to NYU in the fall to continue his studies towards a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and hopes to attend law school specializing in Constitutional Law.

The yearly Distinguished Citizen Award recognizes those who make significant contribution in service and support to the community. This year’s award was presented by Bruce Silverstone, vice president of Aquarion Corporate Communications and committee chairman for the event. ¬†Silverstone was last year’s 2015 award recipient.

Proceeds from the event support HCC programs including student scholarships.
