At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Officer Luis Gutierrez was told of the alleged robbery and provided with a description of the suspect, who was wearing all black with a black backpack.
Police spotted a man matching the description on Cedar Street. The suspect, later identified as Adam Buster of Ansonia, took off running but was arrested after a foot chase. Police retraced the route of the pursuit and recovered a black backpack and a loaded 9 mm handgun.
A check with dispatch revealed no calls reporting an armed robbery in the area.
Buster was charged with criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a pistol without a permit and interfering with police. Bond was set at $75,000.
