A city man faces weapons charges after he fired a handgun during a street fight involving his girlfriend and another woman, according to police.
Officers Paul Nikola and Fernando Oquendo responded to a report of a street fight to the area of James and Chestnut streets at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13. While then police were en route, 911 calls reported shots fired.
Witnesses stated that the gunman fired at a building and then into the air before fleeing into a nearby building.
Police arrested Jaime Acosta, 23, of 138A Chestnut St. and subsequently found marijuana in one location and two handguns hidden inside a cat condo scratch box. He faces charges of carrying a pistol without a permit, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number, unlawful discharge and marijuana counts.
